What is Dermacol?
Dermacol is a European brand. It started in a film studio in Prague and since then has remained under Czech ownership. Since the success of the efforts of film studio experts combined with medical-cosmetics specialists: the Make-up Cover line was born.

With its impressive coverage and quality, the Make-up Cover’s license was sold as far as Hollywood. Today, Dermacol products are sold in Middle East, Ukraine, Russia, Australia, and as far as I know, even in South Korea. Source:

It seems like every makeup junkie, especially those, who have problematic skin are always on the hunt for the perfect makeup foundation. We want it to be lightweight and seamless, like a second skin, long-lasting and waterproof, so we don’t need to worry about our makeup throughout the day and, of course, taking good care of our skin. Today, I’mre going to talk about one of the most full-coverage foundations on the market – Dermacol Make-Up Cover Foundation by a Prague based cosmetic company, first started in the Barrandov Film Studios.

Let’s start with the packaging. Dermacol makeup foundation comes in a soft aluminium tube, that somehow reminds me of gouache paint. Frankly, I’m not the biggest fan of this packaging, because it gets easily deformed and stops satisfying my aesthetic needs. Nevertheless, you are going to receive an booklet with step by step instructions in nine different languages, including English, isn’t it amazing?!

The formula of Dermacol foundation is truly impressive. It is waterproof, hypoallergenic, long-lasting and even has an SPF 30 – everything a good foundation needs to be. The very first in the list and major ingredient in the compound of this foundation titanium dioxide – a white pigment, commonly used in the food and beauty industry. This ingredient explains, why Dermacol is so incredibly pigmented and thick. The next ingredient is paraffinum liquidum – a base, that helps to hold all the ingredients together, making the foundation durable and thick.

As I mentioned earlier, Dermacol foundation has a very thick texture, it is hard to reach beautiful seamless blending and natural finish, but the coverage is as full as it can be. It reminds me a little bit of a grease paint, that is usually used for body art. Once applied on the skin, it totally covers imperfections but looks cakey and unnatural. I was expecting it to crease and emphasize fine lines under the eyes, but it worked surprisingly good.

So how do you use Dermacol foundation? I strongly recommend to start with a basic skin care routine, that includes a gentle exfoliator and a very lightweight daily facial moisturizer. Without these two crucial steps your foundation might look heavy on the skin. The foundation is thick and pigmented, but has a buildable formula, so it is better to start with a smaller amount of the product. Apply the foundation and start blending it with a blending brush or beauty blender. Don’t forget to set Dermacol with setting or translucent powder or your skin is going to look shiny.

o when I found out that my makeup artist friend got this, I knew I got to try it. So now, I got three trial shades to choose from.
Wait, what trial shades? What? Why? Yep, and let me break down the reasons why:
1. Choosing Dermacol shades can be a bit tricky for Asian skin tones.
2. The price can be steep so it’s safe to be sure before purchasing.
3. This is not available locally.
Since it’s made in Europe, chances are the colors lean more on the Caucasian side.* They can be a little too light for some. Dermacol Make-up Cover that are made in South Korea, I believe, are now coming up with new shades that are more yellowish in tone. Hooray for that!

Dermacol Make-up Cover 30g (P900) is housed in small squeeze-type tube. It’s as small as that of the size of a small toothpaste tube. But don’t let the size fool you. Believe me, it is unbelievably super pigmented that a dot-size goes a super long way!
